Service Learning at DPA

One of the most important things that we teach student-athletes during their time at DPA is the importance of community service. We believe that everyone should strive to give back and help others whenever possible. It’s not just good for the community—it’s good for the soul.

That’s why we make service learning a core aspect of our curriculum. By working with various community organizations, student-athletes gain insight into the world and the challenges many face. Through this, we hope to foster a spirit of empathy and understanding that will stay with our students for the rest of their lives.

Building Community Connections

DPA is proud to partner with several organizations in order to help others in the community. By establishing and deepening our connections to these nonprofits and community groups, we’ve created opportunities for students to help others in different ways.

Here are some examples of the organizations we’re working with:

T2 Basketball – T2 is a local basketball club in the metropolitan area that works with elementary, middle, and high-school-aged students to teach the principles of ROADS. Through their partnership with Building Futures, T2 accepts students of various socioeconomic backgrounds, including those who can’t pay for the traditional club fees.

Food Kitchens, Pantries, and Shelters – Homelessness and poverty are issues that frequently affect families throughout Colorado, and they are issues that are very near and dear to our hearts. Working in these environments helps our students better understand the daily life of many hardworking families who are struggling with circumstances beyond their control.

Activism – DPA believes human rights and social justice issues are vitally important. We encourage our students to find a cause that is important to them and become active in researching, advocating, and trying to create positive change.

Find Your Own Opportunities – Our Colorado preparatory academy serves a diverse student body from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Our students have different passions and different opportunities to get involved in the community outside of the relationships that DPA has already established. We welcome our students to present us with projects that are near and dear to them.

Service is one of the key pillars of our ROADS philosophy. DPA seeks to serve its student-athletes as mentors, teachers, and coaches. At the same time, we want our student-athletes to discover the transformative nature of serving others. By becoming servant-leaders, we believe students will be inspired to become the best versions of themselves they can be.
